The 30 Day Experiment for August is a juice fast. I think this will be the most challenging 30 day experiment yet.
Inspired by a DocuMovie
This juice fast experiment was inspired by the movie Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead (trailer below). I ran across it on NetFlix, was interested by the title, and gave it a watch. It wasn’t what I expected. I expected something like Super Size Me but was kind of pleased to find something completely different. My wife and I watched it together and were both all kinds of inspired.
So, wohoooooo! A great idea for a 30 Day Experiment; a really great one — super challenging and healthy with a hint of the unknown. First, I ordered a juicing machine. My juicer is an Omega 8003 masticating juicer (img on right), which I purchased from DiscountJuicers.com. It cost about $220 which starts this off as the most expensive 30 day experiment so far. I am afraid of what the vegetables will cost.
The Details
Expected Big Lesson: Something like a new appreciation for flavor. Incidentally, I learned a TON about juicers during my research. Maybe I will post something about that later.
Expected Effect: Probably some weight loss. Let’s see. 220 lbs on the morning of day 1.
Difficulty: Ultra Hard. The thing is, this means (by default) I’ve got to avoid both meat and dairy — both 30 day experiments I’ve done in the past. In my experience this kind of thing is not tough on a regular work day when you can kind of do your own thing but gets very hard when you’ve got to attend a breakfast, lunch, client meeting, dinner with friends, or have friends in town.
In fact, I normally allow 10% (3 days) of cheating on 30 day experiments. I don’t think a straight 3 days will work on this because you can’t just go back and forth between regular food and juicing. The juice fast calls for something more like a sliding cheat scale. In other words, I will get more relaxed about the rules as the month goes on.
Here we go. Let’s see how this juice fast thing works out.
